Police forces not to be confined to barracks in Kerala bypoll: EC
New Delhi, Nov 6 : The Election Commission today rubbished media reports about Central police forces deputed for tomorrow's Kerala bypolls to be 'confined to the barracks' and clarified that the forces would be deployed at the polling stations to ensure free and fair polling.
The constituency deployment plan of Central police forces had been finalised by the observers regarding the by-elections to Allepey, Ernakulam and Kannur Assembly constituencies.
It would be ensured by the District Election Officers, SPs and observers that the Central police forces reach the polling stations by this evening for the polls to proceed smoothly from tomorrow morning.
After the polls were over, the forces will escort the EVMs back to the strong room and guard the room, an Election Commission official said here.
'While an observer each has been deputed to Allepey and Ernakulam, there are two observers in Kannur. All sensitive polling stations will have a static observer (Micro observer) observing the poll proceedings form inside the polling station and reporting against any vitiation of the poll process.
Arrangements are in place for the polling day to apprehend and take necessary action against the offenders,' the official said.
