Debutant Mithun's ten helps Karnataka beating hosts UP in Ranji
Meerut, Nov 6 : It was a dream debut for Ambhimanyu Mithun, whose hat trick and the ten-wicket match haul helped Karnataka defeat Uttar Pradesh by 185 runs, in their Ranji Trophy Super League match here today.
Chasing a target of 438 runs, Uttar Pradesh's second innings was folded at 252 on the final day of the four-day match at Bhamashah stadium here.
Resuming from overnight score of 30 for one, the UP batsmen succumbed to the guile of A Mithun, who claimed five wickets in addition to six wickets he claimed in the first innings. His match figures read as 40.5-4-181-11, which indeed was a dream debut for 20-year-old.
He claimed wickets of Piyush Chawla, Amir Khan and R P Singh in his 16th over to complete first hat trick of the season. A Mithun was ably supported by old war horse left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi, who chipped in with two wickets for 16 runs.
In fact, none of UP batsmen looked in command barring skipper Mohd Kaif and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who scored a strokeful 84-ball 63.
Karnataka, on the third day, had declared their innings at 311 for 5 setting a target of 438 runs for UP to win.
UP will now meet Saurashtra at Rajkot in their next match starting from November 10.
