Solar energy lights up hilly hamlets in Haryana
Chandigarh, Nov 6 : Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) technology has proved boon to the hilly areas of Morni in Panchkula district as 186 unelectrified hamlets of this area have been electrified with this technology at a cost of over Rupees 4.53 crore.
Stating this here today, a Haryana Renewable Energy department spokesman said that 45 hamlets having 305 houses with a population of 1564 had been electrified at a cost of Rs 250.19 lakh.
He said that out of these, 38 hamlets had been electrified by providing SPV home lighting system (Model-IV) consisting of two light points and one fan to each household along with SPV street lights and seven hamlets had been electrified by installing seven SPV power plant of 5 KW capacity in each hamlet.
Similarly, 149 unelectrified hamlets having 320 households with a population of 1652 had been electrified at a cost of Rs 137.57 lakh by installing 336 SPV home lighting systems consisting of two 11 Watt CFL light points and one fan in each household beside installing 208 SPV street lighting systems, he added.
The spokesman said the remaining 92 unelectrified hamlets having 151 households with a population of 682 had been electrified at a cost of Rs 65.93 lakh by installing 151 SPV home lighting systems consisting of two 11 watt CFL light point and one fan in each household beside installing 99 SPV street lighting system.
The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) had also implemented a special project for installing of SPV street lighting in Scheduled Caste dominated villages having more than 50 per cent SC population, he added.
