LF Govt demands Centre refrain from offloading Govt stake in PSU
Kolkata, Nov 5: The ruling Left Front in West Bengal today demanded that the Centre refrain from offloading Government stake in public sector companies in the interest of the nation's economy.
'' I do not think that the Centre should take this divestment initiatives as it would impact the country's economic scenario. This would only help a section of people, '' Front Chairman Biman Basu told reporters.
He was replying to a question on Union Home Minister P.
Chidambaram's statement on divestment.
'' Our economy was not that affected in the global meltdown as we had our PSUs and we could recover from that even during such crisis situation, '' Mr Basu said.
Mr Chidambaram said yesterday that all listed Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) would have to divest ten per cent equity to the public.
The Home Minister had also said the government would list all unlisted public sector units (PSU) not having any accumulated loss and having positive networth and make profits.
