Swine Flu triggers panic: Medical teams rush to Rajgangpur

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5 : Orissa Health and Family Welfare Minister Prasanna Kumar Acharaya today asked the Director Health Services to rush to Rajgangpur in the tribal dominated Sundargarh district where inmates of two Kanyashams have tested positive for H1N1 flu.

At least eight medical teams with sufficient medicines sent to the area after five girls in Jamapalli Kanyasharma and two in Tudalaga Kanyasharma were tested positive for swine flu.

Apprehending the swine flu virus might spread to other nearby villages, the district authorities had taken extra precaution and set up help desks at the bus stands and identified 23 nearby schools for conducting a thorough medical check up of the students.

The district authorities had also decided to trace the whereabouts of nearly 150 inmates of the Jamapali Kanysharma who had left the Kanyashrama in panic after the swine flu was detected last week.

These girls would be thoroughly screened and if necessary would be admitted in the hospitals if any symptoms of the swine flu reported in their case.

Nearly 61 students of Jamapalli nodal UP school had also reported the cold and fever and a doctor team had been camping there to treat the students.

The authorities had asked both government and private hospitals in the district to keep isolation ward to treat the swine flu patients.

Official report said so far 16 people in the state had been tested positive of H1N1 flue virus and one of them,a doctor from SAIL died in a private hospital in Delhi where he was shifted for treatment of swine flu.

Another report here today said one patient in a private hospital in the state capital and another in SCB Medical College and Hospital also tested positive of the dreaded swine flu virus.

A Rourkela report said out of the total 387 students of the Ashram as many as 120 were treated for fever and cold.

Sundergarh Chief District Medical Officer B K Kindoo said while 77 students had recovered by now as many as many as 62 students were still kept in the isolated room of the hostel and were being given treatment.

Another 20 students were being treated in the isolated ward of the Rajgangpur government hospital.

He said medical team had been sent to all the 18 blocks of the district for a complete check up and to ensure the dreaded disease did not spread to newer areas.

The drive would continue for a fortnight more, he said.
