Armed miscreants loot Rupees 24 lakh meant for NREGA

Kohima, Nov 05 : Unidentified armed miscreants snatched Rupees 24 lakh, meant for undertaking NREGA works in the state, from the possession of a NREGA official when he withdrew the money from Wokha town and was proceeding towards Pangti village.

Official sources here today said the miscreants waylaid the vehicle of the Scheme Secretary of NREGA Rentsamo Lotha Pangti at Worku Tongti under Wokha district yesterday and looted Rs 24 lakh.

The robbers also snatched the mobile phones and other belongings of the occupants.

Police registered a case and investigation was on. However, no arrest has so far been made in this connection, sources said.

The proscribed NSCN/GPRN (NSCN-K) condemned the looting of public money and demanded immediate investigation by the Lotha Hoho as well as the state administration.
