Haryana farmers to get Rupees 25 bonus on sugarcane
Chandigarh, Nov 4 : Farmers in Haryana may get a bonus of Rupees 25 per quintal on supply of sugarcane to the sugar mills over and above the cane price fixed by the state government if a relevant proposal by the Board of Directors of various Cooperative Sugarmills in Haryana is approved.
A spokesman for the Haryana Federation of Cooperative Sugarmills Ltd said the Federation had already urged the sugarmills to give such a bonus to the cane growers.
He said that as a result of this bonus, the cane growers would get Rs 210 per quintal for supply of early varieties of sugarcane, Rs 205 per quintal for mid varieties and Rs 200 per quintal for late varieties to the cooperative sugarmills during the current season 2009-10.
He said the decision to propose bonus for cane growers had been taken in view of the large reduction of sugarcane crop in area under cooperative sugarmills during last two consecutive seasons.
The area under sugarcane in the year 2007-08 was 2.21 lakh acres which has gone down to 82,000 acres in the year 2009-10 showing a decline of 63 per cent.
Due to this sharp decline, he said the possibility of getting the cane by sugarmills for crushing had also reduced to a large extent.
