Bodo militants demand motorbikes from Assam villagers

Tezpur, Nov 4 : Suspected Bodo militants today placed a demand for motorbikes before the people of Nalbari village, under Gohpur police station, in northern Assam's Sonitpur district.

Police informed that two armed suspected militants arrived in the village this morning on a motorbike and demanded the villagers to hand over all the motorbikes available in the village to them.

When the people refused to do so and the crowd swelled, the militants went away but not before threatening the villagers of dire consequences if they failed to hand over the motorbikes.

The villagers later approached the police and also lodged FIR with the Gohpur police station.

Police have increased security in the adjoining areas and are investigating the matter.

The armed youths are suspected to be members of the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
