12 coaches of Gandhidam-Bangalore Express derail, 2 injured
Mumbai, Nov 4 : Passengers of the Gandhidham-Bangalore Express had a miraculous escape late last night when 12 coaches of the train derailed between Bhiwandi Road and Kopar, injuring two people.
The Central Railway (CR) said two people who sustained minor injuries were rendered first aid and continued their journey through a special train.
The CR said the 7th to 18th coaches from engine of the train had derailed blocking train traffic in the section.
There was no effect on Main Line/Harbour Suburban train movement in view of the derailment. However, some trains including the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express and Secunderabad-Rajkot Express were diverted via Kalyan-Jalgaon-Surat and a few other trains including the Dahanu Road-Panvel, Panvel-Boisar local trains and Dombivli Passenger, Vasai Road-Diva passenger trains were cancelled.
Passengers were allowed to travel via Central and Western Railway suburban trains on the same tickets.
The CR spokesman said restoration work was immediately started.
Down line was normalised for train operation at 0345 hrs. Senior officials of CR, including General Manager and Deputy Regional Manager, immediately rushed to the spot to supervise relief operations. Break Down Trains from Kalyan, Kurla and Udhna immediately reached the site along with Wiring Train for restoration.
