Left parties to organise Rights for food security conference

Puducherry, Nov 4 : Joining hands for a common cause, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) would jointly organise a 'Rights for food security' conference here tomorrow.

Addressing a press conference here today, CPI State secretary Na Ra Kalainathan and CPI(M) secretary V Perumal said CPI National secretary D Raja and CPI-M politburo member Varadarajan would address the conference.

They said the Union Governemnt and the Puducherry administration should prevent online trading of commodities and put an end to hoarding to contain price rise.

The left leaders demanded that the territorial administration open a retail kiosk adjacent to PAPSCO outlet to sell essential commodities at subsidised rates. The commodities should be directly procured from the farmers.

Demanding that the anomalies in the issue of Red ration cards be removed and all those below poverty line (BPL) provided with red colour ration cards without any political intervention, they said adding 15 essential commodities should be provided through the public distribution system and a committee formed to monitor the functioning of the ration shops.

One kg of rice for Re One as in Tamil Nadu be provided here, they said adding that all these issues would be highlighted in the conference.
