Situations under control at Khanakul, Nanoor: Home Secretary

Kolkata, Nov 3: The situations were under control at Khanakul and Nanoor and adequate police arrangements had been made in the places to restore peace, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said today.

Talking to mediapersons at Writers' Buildings, Mr Sen said additional police forces rushed to Khanakul and Nanoor after Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee directed the police and the administration to take neutral and suitable measures to bring the situation under control at the two places where clashes between CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress supporters erupted since yesterday injuring 25 people.

'' Adequate police forces are at Khanakul and Nanoor and there is no need to send Central forces there, '' Mr Sen said.

The administration was not unfazed about the incidents and was competent to tackle the situation, he said.

Mr Sen, however, observed that the government was not belittling any incidents.

Altogether ten people, including a policeman, were injured in clashes between CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress activists at Chakvedua, Patul, Langolpara and Isanpara villages under Khanakul police station in Hooghly district yesterday.

At least fifteen people were injured when clashes broke out between CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress cadres at Basapara under Nanoor police station in Birbhum district during the day.
