ESI Super Speciality hospital to come up in Karnataka
Gulbarga, Karnataka, Nov 3 : The decks have been cleared for the construction of the Super Specialty Hospital-cum-Medical College here with the State Government agreeing to handover 30 acre of land free-of-cost.
Official sources said here today Union Labour Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge succeeded in bringing the ESI Hospital-cum- Medical College at a cost of Rs 800 crore.
However, the State Government demanded Rs ten crore non-refundable deposit and Rs 10,000 per acre annual rent for the land.
Recently, the Labour Ministry warned the State Government of cancelling the project unless it provided free land like Kerala and Bihar Governments had done earlier.
The State Government later decided to budge and directed Regional Commissioner Rajaneesh Goel to hand over the land near the Gulbarga University.
The sources said 40 per cent of seats in the ESI Medical College would be allotted towards of Central Government Employees, 40 per cent to students from Karnataka and 20 per cent to children of ESI contributors.
The foundation stone would be laid in next couple of months and work on hospital was likely to be completed by 2013, the sources said.
