Rush to help flood affected; Karnataka CM urges rebel legislators

Bijapur, Nov 3 : Castigating the rebel legislators who had stayed put in resorts in Hyderabad and Goa, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said it was time they realised their 'folly' and rush to help the flood affected people in their constituencies.

More than two dozen MLAs have been shifted to resorts in the two places by the Reddy brothers -- Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy and Revenue Minister G Karunakara Reddy, who are heading the rebel group demanding the ouster of the Chief Minister.

Speaking at a public meeting at Kotyal village after inaugurating schemes to relocating flood prone villages in the district, the Chief Minister said the people were watching the MLAs with 'dismay' and 'disgust'.

"I am a fighter and I will not take this lying down. I will not heed to the unjust demands of the rebels. People have given us mandate for the first time in Karnataka and we should not betray them," he said He said the central leadership was fully seized of the matter and would soon find a formula to defuse the situation and apologised to the people for the state of affairs in his party.

"I appeal to the legislators from North Karnataka who are now in resorts to leave these comforts and come to the rescue of the flood affected," he said.

Mr Yeddyurappa said misunderstanding between him and Reddy brothers was really unfortunate. BJP central leadership who are discussing the issues would solve the problem within 'two or three' days, he said.

He said in the face of the devastating floods early last month the government machinery had worked round the clock to bring succor to the affected and the relief work taken up by the government was a record in the history of state.

"Without burdening the people with additional tax the government with the help of centre has taken up relief work on a war footing.

Organisations, corporate bodies and people have given overwhelming response to my request to extend a helping hand," he said.

A Memorandum of Understanding of construction of new houses at Kotyal village exchanged between Deputy Commissioner and Mysore Citizens Forum headed by Suttur seer Deshikendra Swamiji. The form has undertaken to build 5000 houses in the district at a cost of Rs 50 crore.
