Andhra Pradesh High Court stays arrest of TDP MLA Sita Dayakar Reddy
Hyderabad, Nov 3 : The Andhra Pradesh High Court today stayed the arrest of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Sita Dayakar Reddy in connection with the suicide of an agricultural officer.
Hearing a petition filed by Ms Reddy praying for quashing the police case, Justice Swaroop Reddy directed the police not to arrest her until further orders.
However, the police could investigate the case on its merits, the Judge said.
The legislator, who is now in New Delhi, would consider seeking anticipatory bail, her counsel Venkataram Reddy told UNI.
The MLA from Devarkadra in Mahabubnagar district landed in trouble after agriculture officer B Rajeswari charged that the MLA along with two others had harassed her, forcing her to taking the extreme step of ending her life.
The MLA, who had been named the President of the party's women wing by TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu, had announced that she would not assume charge till she was cleared of the charges.
The physically-challenged agriculture officer committed suicide by immolating herself in Mahabubnagar District and succumbed to burns here on October 18.
