Thief who stayed overnight in bank's strong room nabbed
Udupi, Karnataka, Nov 3: A thief who slid into the strong room of a public-sector bank and stayed there overnight with a dream pulling of a big heist is now cooling his heels behind bars.
According to the branch manager of the public sector Vijaya Bank at Kavi Muddanna Marg, the intruder, identified as Hrishikesh of Ambalpady, near here, somehow gained entry into the strong room of the bank branch in the evening yesterday by hoodwinking the staff and stayed put till they returned in the morning.
The staff, after the bank hours, locked the strong room and the bank premises and went home.
The thief succeeded laying his hands on some cash, filled it in his bag and waited for the staff to return in the morning.
As the branch manager opened the strong room, the thief pushed him aside and started to run. However, alert staff and the manager himself, succeeded in chasing culprit and catched him.
They soon summoned the Town Police. When the police opened the bag, they found Rs 1.90 lakh cash.
The intruder was arrested and produced in a court.
It was learnt the thief had been visiting the branch frequently since the last three days.
