ESI super speciality hospital to come up in Karnataka

Gulbarga, Nov 3 : The decks have been cleared for the construction of the Super Specialty Hospital cum Medical College here with the state Government agreeing to handover 30 acres of land at free of cost.

Official sources said after Union Labour Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge succeeded in bringing the ESI hospital cum medical college at a cost of Rs 800 crore.

However the state government demanded Rs ten crore non-refundable deposit and Rs ten thousand per acre annual rent for the land.

Recently the Labour Ministry warned the state government of canceling the project, unless it provided free land like the governments of Kerala and Bihar had done earlier.

The state government later decided to budge and directed the regional commissioner Rajaneesh Goel to handover the land near the Gulbarga University.

The sources said 40 per cent of seats in the ESI medical college would be allotted to the central government employees, 40 per cent to the students belonged to this state and 20 per cent to the children of ESI contributors.

The foundation stone would be laid in the next couple of months and the hospital is likely to be completed by 2013, official sources said.
