Protect Karnataka 's iron mine from the Reddys: Former MGU VC

Bangalore, Nov 3 : Renowned writer and Jnanapith Award winner Professor U R Ananthamurthy today demanded the Karnataka government to nationalise all the iron-ore mining activities in the State and protect the natural resources for the benefit of the next generation.

Talking to UNI here, Prof Murthy, former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) in Kerala, said the act of digging out iron-ore in an unscientific manner and exporting it was nothing but an act of continuing the legacy of the former colonial powers.

Charging that the vast resources of iron-ore deposits in Bellary district in Karnataka were being vandalized by the 'Reddy brothers', who are also powerful ministers in the Karnataka government, for their personal gains, he said ''they were displaying their ill-gotten wealth vulgarly by luring legislators only to instal their own puppet Cabinet in the state.'' Calling upon the BJP’s Central leadership not to entertain mining barons, who are demanding the ouster of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, the writer, a known critical of Sangh Pariwar, accused the 'Reddy brothers' of indulging in looting fossil resources by throwing all norms to winds.
