Man murdered by gang, body burnt in Chennai

Chennai, Nov 2 : A 25 year-old man was murdered by a gang which later burnt the body in an abandoned apartment at Kannagi Nagar area in Thorapakkam here last night.

Police said the body, which was charred beyond recognition, was yet to be identified.

Tension prevailed in the area as the murder came to light.

The gang first killed the youth by slitting his throat and later burnt the body by dousing it with kerosene.

The incident might have taken place past midnight as locals found smoke emanating from the vacant apartment and informed the Thorapakkam police, who removed the charred remains to the government hospital for post mortem.

Two youths, Sanga and Vinodh, were said to be missing in the area for the last couple of days. Their families were informed in order to identify the body.

About 15,000 flats were built by the Slum Clearance Board at Kannagi Nagar. They were used to accommodate the families evicted during encroachment drives in the city.

Some of the apartments, which did not have water and electricity, were lying vacant and this came in handy for the culprits to commit the crime.

Police are on the look out for the killers.
