Political solution only way out for Lankan crisis: Kanimozhi

Chennai, Nov 2 : DMK Rajya Sabha Member Kanimozhi today said the Tamils in Sri Lanka could lead a peaceful and dignified life, only if a political solution was found to the vexed ethnic issue.

In a brief chat with newspersons after inaugurating a handloom and handicrafts exhibition here, she said the re-settlement of the Internally Displaced Tamils to their original habitations would mean an end to the problems of the Tamils.

The daughter of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who was part of a delegation of MPs from the State, which visited the Tamils held in the camps, said the re-settled Tamils should be given equal rights on par with their Sinhalese counterparts and allowed to lead a peaceful and dignified life.

This would be possible only if a political solution was found to the ethnic crisis, Ms Kanimozhi said.

''The re-settlement of the Tamils alone could not help to solve the issue,'' she added.

After the Lankan Government had assured the MPs delegation that it would release the Internally Displaced Tamils from the camps and allow them to re-settle in their original habitations, more than 1.8 lakh Tamils have been freed.
