Viswa-Bharati employees continue dharna
Santiniketan, Nov 2 : The crisis at Viswa-Bharati University showed no signs of ending as the agitators, demanding dismissal of Vice-Chancellor Rajat Kanta Ray, continued their indefinite hunger strike despite assurance of the Executive Council to probe the allegations against the VC.
Members of the Viswa-Bharati Executive Council held a meeting with the agitating employees of the University in Kolkata yesterday where they assured that a probe would be conducted by an appropriate agency appointed by the Central government.
However, the agitators demanded that the VC be sent on leave during the investigation to ensure a fair and impartial probe.
They also alleged that the departmental inquiry instituted to probe the transfer of two Rabindra Bhawan employees had many loopholes and demanded another inquiry into the case.
They threatened that the hostel employees would also join their agitation from today, but exempted the hostel workers from participating in the hunger strike in view of the safety and security of the students.
Meanwhile, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal, urging him to intervene in the issue and end the stalemate immediately.
