Work on Football Academy to get going from Nov 4
Bangalore, Nov 2 : In an attempt to give a boost to football in India, the Federation DE International Football Association (FIFA), the umbrella organistion of World football, has come forward to set up Football Academy in the city.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel, who is also the All India Football Federation (AIFF) President would preside over function to mark the ground breaking ceremony of the Academy by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa here on October four.
The Academy, with an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore would come up at the southern wing of the Bangalore District Football Association (BDFA) stadium here, KSFA President A R Khaleel told UNI.
The Academy would have International Coaches deputed by FIFA to train the budding players. "The Academy would be a milestone in the annals of Karnataka State and the KSFA. It would accommodate 60 trainees with all facilities, such as boarding, lodging, gymnasium, seminar hall and other facilities," KSFA Deputy Secretary S Krishnaji Rao said.
It was after nearly a decade struggle, KSFA has succeeded to get sanction for establishment of the Academy.
Once the Academy was established, regular training and Coaching camps would be held in the Academy by Coaches selected by FIFA. "It would give a boost to the budding and local boys who perform well at the national and International level," Rao added.
FIFA in consultation with Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and AIFF which have considered the huge contribution made to the game and laurels brought by the erstwhile Mysore State Football Association and the present KSFA in terms of representation in the Olympics and recipients of Gold Medals in the Asian Games and other International Tournaments.
