Armaan finishes F2 season on a high with top 10 finish at Barcelon
New Delhi, Nov 2 : Indian racing prodigy Armaan Ebrahim's campaign in the FIA Formula 2 Championships 2009 ended on a high at the Circuit de Catalunya at Barcelona.
Fresh of an impressive debut outing the previous weekend with the VW India team at in the German Formula 3 Championships, Armaan started his Barcelona sojourn in style. Armaan was second fastest overall in the second practice session on Friday trailing only Philipp Eng by a whisker.
According to information received here, in qualifying Armaan's first two sectors were really quick and it was only a small mistake on the last corner that cost him 3/10th of a second which put him in 9th position, given that the difference between Pole and 9th was just 4/10th of a second.
Robert Wickens qualified on Pole with a time of 1 min 38.1 seconds while Armaan qualified at P9 with a time of 1 minute 38.5 seconds.
The race ended as it started as overtaking on the Catalunya circuit was virtually impossible. Andy Soucek on his home circuit, got the jump on Robert Wickens at the start and finished first with Nicola De Marco from Italy finished second and Robert Wickens finished third.
It was a good race for Armaan as the race pace was always quick but with absolutely no room to overtake, Armaan stayed close on the heels of Phillipp Eng, who finished one place ahead of Armaan.
Speaking about the race, Armaan said, ''Barcelona was a really good weekend and it is very satisying that I was able to be in the top five throughout the weekend's practice. A small mistake in the last corner cost me Pole or at least P2 in qualifying. Within just 3/10th of a second there were as many as 9 cars which shows how close this level of racing has been, not just in Barcelona but throughout the entire season.'' ''It was also nice to have a good outing with VW car in the German Formula 3 race, last weekend at Orschesleben, Germany. Scoring two top 10 finishes having never driven a F3 car before was extremely satisfying,'' he said.
