Sikh radical groups call for 'bandh' to protest Sikh riots

Jalandhar, Nov 1 : The Khalsa Action Committee (KAC), a conglomerate of various religio-political radical groups today made a fervent appeal to people of all religions, race and creed to join the Punjab bandh call on November 3 to protest against the 1984 anti-Sikh carnage.

After presiding over a meeting of representatives of various Sikh groups, KAC chairman Bhai Mohkam Singh and Dal Khalsa head H S Dhami declared that they have resolved to block rail and road traffic in the state on November 3.

Spokesperson of Dal Khalsa, Kanwarpal Singh urged the people to support it for the larger humanitarian cause of justice for those innocents who were killed in the communal carnage aimed at obliterating Sikhism and teaching a lesson to the Sikhs.

It is pertinent to mention that under the aegis of the Khalsa Action Committee, the Dal Khalsa had given a call for complete bandh to mark the 25th year of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The call assumes significance as it has a full backing of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Damdami Taksal, Akand Kirtani Jatha, Chief Khalsa Deevan, Sikh Youth of Punjab, Bhindrawale Federation, Shiromani Khalsa Panchayat, SAD (Amritsar) and various factions of Shiromani Akali Dal and Sikh Students Federation.

Joining hands on the issue, leaders representing different groups said the objective was to express anguish against the denial of justice to victims, to give verdict against the politics of genocide and to pay homage to thousands of innocent Sikhs killed during the carnage. They have asked the Director, State Transport and General Manager, Northern Railways to cancel bus-rail traffic in Punjab for one day in view of the bandh call.

To avoid any inconvenience to passengers, the KAC leaders have sought co-operation from both transport and rail departments.

Prominent amongst those who were present included Harpal Singh Cheema, general secretary of SAD (Pranch Pardani), Paramjit Singh Gazi (SSF), Ranbir Singh (head, SYP), Shiromani Khalsa Panchayat leader Jarnail Singh, Sarbjit Singh Ghuman, Baldev Singh Ajnala, Dr Gurjinder Singh, Parmjit Singh Khalsa and Gurpreet Singh Mann.
