Illegal construction of the school demolished in Surat

Surat, Oct 31 : The officials from Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished 15,000 sq ft construction of L P Savani school built on government land at Bhata village in Hazira area of this district.

The newly constructed school, which was about to start functioning within few months, had been demolished as the land was primarily owned by state irrigation department.

More than 100 civic personnel from SUDA and SMC took part in the operation, which began this morning and continued till late in the night yesterday.

Town Planner of SUDA P C Prasad said after getting an official written complaint from the irrigation department, the demolition process was undertaken.

The department said that land was owned by it and that no NoC for the land had been issued to the school authorities.

Sources said the construction of the school was going on for a long time and the work was nearing completion. School authorities wanted to start CBSE affiliated school at the site.
