Mobile legal services vans launched in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31 : Orissa Saturday launched a programme to bring legal services and awareness to rural areas of the state with Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan flagging off a "legal service van" here.

"These vans will create awareness amongst the disadvantaged section of the society who are ignorant about their rights. They are also aimed at ensuring that no one suffers injustice on account of ignorance or lack of means," I.M. Quddusi, the acting chief justice of Orissa High Court, said.

The mobile legal service vans will go to different parts of the state especially rural areas to disseminate information about legal services. The vans are equipped to facilitate exhibition of documentary films to raise awareness about the different laws and legal rights.

The vans are also equipped to hold "Lok Adalats" (people's courts).

"These vans would help taking legal services to the doorstep of the people and also help in reducing the pile up of cases in courts," said Sumit Mohanty of Orissa Legal Services Authority.
