Golden Katar Division celebrates infantry day
Ahmedabad, Oct 27 : Infantry Day, observed annually to commemorate the first ever military action post independence was celebrated at the Golden Katar War Memorial here today. The function presided over by Major General Sunil Kumar Jha, General Officer Commanding of the Golden Katar Division.
On this occasion, a pledge was taken by all to strive with renewed vigour and dedication to uphold the highest traditions of the Infantry and to forever be ready for any sacrifice for the nation.
In the function wreaths were also laid in the memory of martyrs.
Golden Katar Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) president Renu Jha graced the occsion. The event was attended by a large gathering, which included both serving and retired officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks. Children from Army School and Shaurya Army Pre Primary School also witnessed the function.
On this day 62 years ago, Pakistani raiders invaded the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the aim of annexing the territory. The raiders advanced along road Uri-Baramulla-Srinagar, and the situation turned grave. The 1st Battalion of SIKH Regiment was flown to Srinagar Air Port in Dakota aircraft. These gallant infantrymen fought a valiant action reversing the tides and saved Kashmir from falling into Pakistani hands.
