Making School Curriculum 'More Relevant' : Sibal

New Delhi, Oct 23 : A 'more relevant' curriculum for school children was promised by Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal today while launching a programme to train 'Master Trainers' in Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation.

The programme involves a three-day training course for 110 Master Trainers who, in turn, will train Delhi Government School Principals and Teachers over the next two to three monthsa, an HRD Ministry statement said.

Sibal said the government was looking at curriculum content to make it more relevant for students and helpful in getting jobs.

At the same time, he said any change in curriculum may only be attempted taking ''a comprehensive view of the country, its different regions and socio economic groups.'' Sibal stressed ''greater respect'' for teachers and said education reforms must create more opportunities for teachers' growth and help secure them a ''more important'' place in society.

Sibal launched a post training Toll Free Helpline 1800118002 for teachers to call with queries about CCE and released a CCE logo, a slogan, manuals for teachers and trainers, a model card and a school report.

The manuals, for instance, detail the CCE scheme and ways to operationalise it.

Teachers may also 'Interact with the Chairman' on CCE implementation on www.cbse.nic.in.
