Draft legislation on changes to Disabilities Act to be ready soon

New Delhi, Jul 29 : The Government has appointed a committee to prepare a draft legislation for amending the Disabilities Act.

The committee consists of representatives of various stakeholders including Central and State Governments and experts in disabilities, various representatives of Civil Society Organisations.

It will prepare the legislation aligning it with the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr D Napoleon told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The Committee has invited suggestions and comments on various issues relating to their terms of reference.
