Kolkata, Sept 30 : The West Bengal government would formally hand over land to Bengal Hockey Association (BHA) on Friday for construction of an astro turf field in the city's Salt Lake area, official sources said on Thursday.

BHA secretary Gurbux Singh said state Sports Minister Kanti Ganguly will hand over the plot adjacent to the Yuba Bharati Krirangan for the purpose.

The BHA, for the first time, had organised the Beighton Hockey tournament on astro turf belonging to Sports Authority of India, also in the Salt Lake area.

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee recently assured financial help to BHA for the construction of an astro truf if the association had its own land. (IBNS)
