Kashmiri film made after 47 yrs screened

Srinagar, Dec 8 : Partav, a 35 mm digital movie made in Kashmiri after 47 years, was screened at the Convocation Complex of University of Kashmir on Saturday, inviting acclaim of the audience and film fraternity.


Made under the banner of Dithyramb Entertainment Pvt Ltd, Partav has been written, produced and directed by Dilnawaz Muntazir.

"Partav" is a story of a professor who is highly qualified. He is so obsessed with his literary work that he forsakes everything else, even abandons his spouse after just six months of marriage. He is so passionately devoted to his literacy pursuit that everything else is meaningless for him.

Writing papers, books, delivering lectures keeps him preoccupied. He has no friend, and family and arrogantly boosts that if a person is devoted to a particular cause he should renounce everything else to pursue his obsession.

After watching, the audience appreciates the movie and applauded the director for his initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest and noted film maker and co-ordinator MERC KU, Faruq Masudi, commended the Partav team and appealed to other Kashmiri talented youths to come forward and make movies not only on family background but also on the conflict.



He also said that "it has been after nearly four decades that a Kashmir feature film has been made."

"After Habba Khatoon and Mianz Raat, there has been a lull in feature film making in Kashmiri. We have failed to give Kashmiri language its due place," he said.

"Partav is a serious subject about intricate relationships. It revolves around the ideology that a life is lived for," filmmaker Muntazir said terming the film as a team work.

The film was first premiered at the Kolkata International Film festival. It has also been selected for Delhi International Film Festival. Partav won the Award of Excellence in Canada International Film Festival in 2013.

Director Dilnawaz Muntazir along with Raja Bilal has composed the music of the film.

The cinematography of the film has been done by Muhammad Younis Zargar, a trained cinematographer, editor and graphic designer. The film has been edited by Ashiq Hussain Rather, a trained film editor.

The cast of the film includes Raja Majeed, Nirmala Dhar, Farooq Afaq, Jehangir Farash, Neelofar, Rayees Mohi-ud-din, Nazir Harbol, Joziya Mir and others.
