INFOCOM 2013 focuses on 'Empowerment'

Kolkata, Dec 5 : The twelfth edition of INFOCOM, which is a congregation of ICT professionals, corporate leaders, academicians and policymakers in India, kick-started with the inauguration by West Bengal Minister for IT, Communication & Industries Partha Chatterjee here.


D.D.Purkayastha, Managing Director & CEO, ABP Private Limited and Chairman, INFOCOM was also present at the inauguration.

The annual conclave from the house of ABP Private Limited held in association with the Department of Information Technology & Electronics, Government of West Bengal and Webel comprises a three-day conference from Dec 5-7 and a four-day exhibition from Dec 5-8 at the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex.

The theme for INFOCOM 2013 is "Empowerment".

Aimed at enhancing the capacity of individuals and organizations, the event intends to provide a platform for showcasing various strategies that assist in formulating choices and transforming them into desired outcomes.

The event brings together over 1200 delegates, 75 speakers and about 40 sponsoring companies at the conference and over 60,000 footfalls and over 100 exhibitors from across the global ICT domain, corporate, services, government to name a few.

Top erudite like Chhavi Rajawat, Sarpanch, Elected Head-Village Council of Soda (Rajasthan); Yossi Ghinsberg, International Motivational Speaker among others will be heard sharing their experiences and highlighting the elements that prevail in the empowerment efforts.

The pre-inaugural ceremony opened a window of opportunity for fast-paced inclusive growth aimed at enlarging the size of economy. The role of financial inclusion was also shared which in turn provides equal measures for increasing the productive opportunities.

Rudrangshu Mukherjee, Editor-Editorial pages, The Telegraph, ABP Private Limited was the Chairperson along with key speakers namely Ashok Soota, Executive Chairman, Happiest Minds; Rajendra S. Pawar, Chairman and Co-Founder, NIIT Group; Ralph Simon, CEO & Founder, Mobilium Global; Chairman Emeritus & Founder, Mobile Entertainment Forum-Americas; Internationally known as 'Father of Ring Tone' and P. K. Malhotra, Deputy Managing Director, State Bank of India.

The keynote address was delivered by Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman, Cognizant.

Commemorating the 12th year, INFOCOM comes forth to recognize and acknowledge the contributions, made by noted IT visionaries through a award platform in Eastern India named the 'INFOCOM 12 IT Gems of India'.

The curtain raiser witnessed a tribute to the undying dedication and perseverance of those 12 leaders who have utilized vision, creativity, business acumen and technology to lead India towards a higher goal in the field of information technology.

The day also witnessed the inauguration of the exhibition at the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex thereby providing a platform for technology vendors to exhibit, connect, and conduct business with partners, buyers, and sellers from India and abroad.

Spread over 1,50,000 square feet of exhibition space, the information and communication technology expo is a one-stop shop for hardware, software, communication, digital lifestyle, eGovernance, telecom, mobile, electronics, infrastructure, security & surveillance, gadgets & gizmos, SME showcase, animation & gaming and various others segments.

Among the focus areas at the exhibition was the 'Innovation Hub' where young engineering students from across India showcased their innovative projects.

INFOCOM Quizzit, the popular quiz event was also a major attraction, drawing hundreds of young professionals, students and corporates. Some of the added attractions included the ethical hacking workshop along with exceptional interactive sessions, product launches and demos.

Under the aegis of the main event, the eighth edition of The INFOCOM Future Leadership Awards, an open paper writing competition for management students across national and international B-schools was initiated.

An endeavour to identify and groom the young global leaders of the future, six outstanding entries based on the topic of empowerment are shortlisted by the distinguished panel and the award winning students are felicitated at the special IFLA ceremony.

The 'Strategy and Leadership Forum' was debated based on the focus area of the growing importance of creating competitive and resilient SMEs as a vital component for sustainable growth.

The emphasis lay on clustering the respective sector for deriving collective advantages at par with the international standards.

The session on 'Doing things differently: Extraordinary Entrepreneurs' decoded the DNA of successful industry leaders with emphasis on their entrepreneurial abilities and their innovative workable ideas contributing towards a self-sufficient society.
