Winter Session of Parliament begins today

New Delhi, Dec 5 : The Winter Session of the Indian Parliament will begin here on Thursday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said his government will try to ensure that the Winter Session of Parliament went off smoothly and all business was transacted while he assured passage of the Telangana bill for a new state amid the opposition demand for an extension of the short session after a break.

"We seek the cooperation of all segments of the two house," he said about the Winter Session and various bills and businesses scheduled.

He said whatever urgent financial business is there will have to be transacted in priority basis.

"We are talking to various political parties to ensure smooth passage of the essential bills," he said when asked about the passage of Lokpal Bill.

He said he is fully committed to Telangana.

The session will continue till Dec 20.

There will be 12 sittings, said the Rajya Sabha in a release.
