'Masterchef' McDermott credits juicy beef steaks for Oz's first Ashes Test success

Sydney, Dec 3 : Australian fast bowling coach Craig McDermott welcomed bowlers to his Brisbane home before the Gabba Ashes Test to chew the fat and chew on some sizzling beef, and this could be a reason for the nation's success in the first Ashes Test.

According to, McDermott was the masterchef of meat and his wife Ann Maree prepared the salads as Australia's fast bowlers bonded in a relaxed setting ahead of Ashes battle.

It could have been the moment the Poms went from the frying pan into the fire as Australia's fast bowling collective, plus spinner Nathan Lyon, were the gang of cricket mates who vowed to have each other's backs this summer, the report said.

McDermott revealed that he cooked the steaks and his wife prepared all the other bits and pieces, all the salads and everything else.

He added that he thought it was a good idea for the players to get together as a group because they needed to work together as a group.

McDermott has only recently returned as bowling coach but appears to have already made a big difference, the report said.

He gave the Aussie fast bowlers an early rocket at the Gabba for bowling too recklessly to England's openers, the report added.
