Actress Konkona Sen Sharma, whose acting skills are appreciated both in Hindi and Bengali film industries, turned 34 years of age on Tuesday.


She is the daughter of noted filmmaker-actress Aparna Sen and made her debut in the silver screen as a child artist in the film 'Indira' in 1983.

Konkona appears primarily in Indian arthouse and independent films, and her achievements in the genre have established her as one of the leading actresses of contemporary parallel cinema.

The actress debuted as an adult in the Bengali thriller 'Ek Je Aachhe Kanya' in 2000.

However, she first garnered fame with the English-language film 'Mr. and Mrs. Iyer' in 2002, which was directed by her mother.

The film bagged her the National Film Award for Best Actress.

Her appearance in the drama 'Page 3' in 2005 got her wider recognition from audiences, and she has since then starred in a number of films, most of which have garnered her critical praise rather than commercial success.

She won two consecutive Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Awards for her performances in 'Omkara' (2006) and 'Life in a... Metro' (2007), respectively. Her performance in the former won her a second National Award under the Best Supporting Actress category.

Her performance in 'Dosar', a Bengali art film by Rituporno Ghosh was not only praised but the film was also premiered at several international film festivals.

She has acted in a number of mainstream Hindi films like 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag', ' Aaja Nachle', ' Luck by Chance', 'Wake Up Sid', 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge' and 'Ek Thi Daayan' among others.

Some of her other Bengali noted films are 'Iti Mrinalini', 'Shesher Kobita', ' Shunyo Awnko' and 'Goynar Baksho'.

Her upcoming films include 'Sunglass', 'Amavas' and 'Gulel'.
