Jaya opposes communal violence bill

Chennai, Dec 2 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him not to pass the Prevention of Communal (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill, 2013 in the upcoming Winter Session of the Parliament.

In her letter to Singh, Jayalalithaa said she was completely opposed to the bill.

"With barely five months to go for the term of the present Lok Sabha to end and for general elections to be announced, any hasty attempt to bring in such legislation without wide consultation among all political parties and stakeholders would be a completely undemocratic move," read the letter.

She said the bill in its current form has too many 'lacunae'.
