Flight attendant Sara Keagle has advised people to never reveal their hotel name or room number while on the plane or after arriving at the hotel, and if you are traveling in a group, write it on a piece of paper and give it to them, the Huffington Post reported.
Keagle said that once you get your hotel room, use your bags to prop open the door and scan the room before you lock the door.
She added that one has to be very careful and must not answer the door unless you are expecting someone, and if in doubt, alert the front desk immediately.
Also, leaving the television on in your room while you head out is a good idea as the noise will deter thieves, and using the deadbolt is highly recommended.
Keagle advised people to place a note on the table detailing yourself and your plans before you go out as it could be of help to the police in case something happened to you.
Being aware of the nearest exit and keeping a torch and a room key at a safe and easily accessible place in the room would be very useful if a disaster occurred.
