Bengal marks Vivekananda's 150th anniversary year

Kolkata, Nov 23 : The West Bengal government for the first would organise a state level programme with thousands of school children to mark the closing of the year-long celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in January 2014.


Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is expected to preside over the mega celebration at the iconic Red Road, said on her Facebook page, that on January 10 thousands of school children, members of youth communities, participants from far-flung areas like Jangal Mahal, Sunderbans, Darjeeling, cultural groups and other individuals and organizations from different walks of life will present colourful performances.

The celebration titled "Vivek Chetna Utsav" between January 5-12 will be held in presence of many dignitaries from different strata, including Maharaj of Belur Math.

The decision on the program was taken in the presence of the secretary of Belur Math, the global headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission set up by Swamiji himself, she added.
