Kerala government launches all-women taxi

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 20 : The Kerala government has launched 24x7 all-women taxi service - 'She Taxi' service - in the state to ensure safe travel options to women round the clock.


The white-and-pink taxis are owned and driven by women, who are trained in self defence.

"It is a taxi service run by women for women, you cannot think of anything more which is safer than this. I hope that more people come forward to take up this service," goodwill ambassador of the project, actor Manju Warrier, was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.

The taxis, which are monitored through a GPS system, come with panic buttons which can be pressed if police help is needed.

The service has been initiated by Gender Park under the Department of Social Justice.
