Excellent bilateral relations between India and UK: President Mukherjee

New Delhi, Nov.8 : President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday said that India and the United Kingdom share a deep commitment to the principles of liberty, democracy, freedom of expression and the rule of law. President Mukherjee, who was called on by Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales at Rashtrapati Bhavan, said that the bilateral relations between the two countries are in an excellent state. He said based on countries' shared history, democratic values and institutions, the relationship is bound to reach qualitatively new levels. President Mukherjee expressed appreciation for Prince Charles' involvement with charity work in India for many years, and remembered his previous visits to India with warmth.

He also said Prime Minister of United Kingdom David Cameron's visit in February this year, accompanied by a large business delegation, was marked by number of good initiatives.

Prince Charles warmly reciprocated the sentiments expressed by President Mukherjee, and said he has been visiting India over 40 years now.
