Shweta withdraws FIR against Congress MP

Kollam, Nov 3 : Southern actress Shweta Menon, who had filed an FIR against Congress MP N Peethambara Kurup for alleged misbehaviour, has decided to withdraw the complaint, said reports.

Kurup was booked by the police in Kollam district of Kerala on charges of molesting Menon at a public function on Friday last. The alleged incident occurred at a boat race function in Kollam.

But Menon soon after filing the complaint issued a press statement informing her decision to withdraw the complaint after the politician's "repeated apology."

"In the wake of Mr Peetambhara Kuroop's repeated public and personal apology about the incident at the President's Boat Race at Kollam, I am withdrawing all legal and other actions against him," a press statement by Menon said.

Kurup earlier strongly denied the allegation by the 39-year-old South Indian actress who alleged that she was touched inappropriately by the politician. She said TV footage would corroborate her claims.

Menon was quoted in Malaya Manorama saying, "I am in a state of shock over the incidents that happened yesterday (Friday) and I am deeply hurt in the manner in which the Kollam district collector has refuted I spoke to him about what happened."

"I want justice because I have been picturised as a liar and I can't take this," she said, adding that she would also write to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on the matter.

Menon started acting in Malayalam feature films in the early 1990s and has done modelling besides working in Bollywood.
