BSF saves Bangladeshi smugglers

Malda, Oct 29 : The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday said its personnel have saved the lives of twelve Bangladesh cattle smugglers in Malda district of West Bengal.


"Apart from daily operational duties BSF displayed an unique human gesture by saving the live of 12 Bangladeshi cattle smugglers in the area of responsibility of 31 Bn BSF near village Parbati Danga under Police station Habibpur, District - Malda," the BSFG said in a statement on Tuesday.

"On 27th Oct 2013 at about 0515 Hrs a BSF party observed suspected movemen of smugglers with cattle trying to smuggle into Bangladesh. BSF Party cordoned the area and challenged them to stop.

After being challenged smugglers tried to flee away and jumped into a deep pond to escape. Since the pond was deep and full of water born vegetation and elephant grasses they got trapped in it and could not managed to escape and started drowning," it said.

The BSF saved a rescue operation to save the smugglers.

"Seeing the lives of Bangladeshi nationals in danger. BSF launched a rescue operation with the help of villagers and local police and saved the lives of 12 Bangladeshi smugglers. BSF also seized 51 cattle heads which was being smuggled to Bangladesh by cattle smugglers," the BSF said.

The rescued Bangladeshi smugglers were given First Aid and handed over to local police for legal action.

The seized cattle was handed over to customs for further disposal.
