Three people, including a Jubo Dal activist and a municipality-level Jubo League leader, were killed and at least 30 people injured on the first day of the opposition combine-sponsored 60-hour strike in Bangaldesh, said the Daily Star.
Jubo Dal activist Maruf Hossain, 20, was killed in a clash with police in Nagarkanda, 60 km west of Dhaka. A Jubo League leader of Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore, was stabbed to death by picketers.
The incidents of violence like clashes, arson, vandalism and bomb blasts were also reported from places like Satkhira, Rajshahi, Gazipur, Chittagong and Natore.
Most schools, shops and businesses in Dhaka remained closed as the strike called by Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led opposition alliance of former prime minister Khaleda Zia began early Sunday.
