According to officials, at around 0540 hrs on specific information troops of Bop Sovapur, Ex-20 Bn BSF of Frontier Headquarter, BSF South Bengal had launched a SPL operation in the area of responsibility of Bop Sovapur, under police station Baishnabnagar, district - Malda.
The BSF later recovered FICN worth Rs 11 lakhs, an official said.
The counterfeit notes were kept in a plastic bag and thrown into the Indian side over the border fence by taking advantage of darkness.
However, due to the alertness of the BSF the attempt of smuggler was foiled and resulted in huge seizure of FICN worth Rs. 11 lakhs.
The BSF said that this was a major breakthrough in the recovery of FICN and has given a major dent to FICN smugglers.
BSF in a press statement said, "Circulation of FICN is major concern for our economy as well as our nation. In the last few months BSF could seize more than 70 lakh of FICN during special ops in Malda area."
