The POA said it is indicative of the growing power and influence of Muslim gangs in prison and showed concern about their radicalization by more extremist elements, Sky News reports.
According to the report, official sources have confirmed forced conversions as a prominent problem with more than 11,200 Muslims locked up in the jails of England and Wales, which makes up about 13 percent of the total prison population.
However, most jail inmates are often afraid to report such intimidation for fear of revenge, the report added.
Jail authorities believe that it is the potential route to extremism and a very fertile ground for recruitment to jihadist groups.
