While inaugurating the Inclusive Urban Development Summit here, Modi said: "If people give us an opportunity to work for five years, they will see the change that we will bring."
"It will be a change that people have been waiting to see, a change that they will appreciate," he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, BJP patriarch LK Advani said he would be happy to see Modi as the next Prime Minister of India.
"I will be happy if Modi becomes the PM," said Advani, who was earlier opposed to Modi's elevation as the PM candidate of BJP, at a public gathering in Ahmedabad.
Advani's endorsement of Modi for the first time in a public forum is a morale booster for the Gujarat Chief Minister who has been seen a polarising force even within the BJP.
Advani said Modi always thinks of new things and praised him for his governance in Gujarat that drew admiration from India and abroad.
Modi and Advani on Wednesday inaugurated Institute of Infrastructure, Technology, Research and Management (IITRAM) in Ahmedabad.
