BSE Sensex falls on U.S. turmoil

Mumbai, Oct 15 : The BSE Sensex fell 0.29 percent on Tuesday, as blue chips declined on uncertainty over the U.S. government impasse.

The 30-share benchmark index ended 59.92 points lower at 20,722.90 with 17 of its components closing in the red.

The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.39 percent or 23.65 points higher at 6,089.05 on Tuesday.

Banking stocks fell after data showed the headline inflation at higher than expected levels raising concerns of monetary tightening by the central bank.

Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold dropped by Rs 225 to Rs 30,550 per 10 grams while silver plunged Rs 520 to Rs 47,050 per kg.
