History sheeter Michael Fernandes escapes

By John Edwards, Panaji, Oct 15 : Michael Fernandes, who has dozens of criminal cases registered against him at different police stations in Goa and the neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka, has escaped from Central Jail Aguada Tuesday afternoon.


The Prisons Department has confirmed the news saying they have informed the police for tracing him.

"He has escaped but we don't have information as to how he fled," Inspector General of Prisons Mihir Vardhan said. An inquiry has been initiated against the jail officials for negligence.

The Goa Police have launched a massive manhunt to locate him and border check posts have been alerted.

Fernandes has managed to give the prisons officials a slip several times in the past.
