Asaram Bapu sent to custody till Oct 19

Gandhinagar, Oct 15 : A Gujarat court on Tuesday sent self-styled godman Asaram Bapu to police custody till October 19 in connection to a sexual assault case.


According to reports, he was grilled by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Monday.

Adding more woos to Asaram, a new case of sexual assault was earlier registered against him and his son Narayan Sai.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday summoned the Director General of Police (DGP) to get himself updated on the investigation into the case against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai.

A Jodhpur court had earlier given his custody to the Gujarat Police.

The Surat Police have already issued summons to Narayan Sai.

Narayan Sai, who was last seen at Jaipur Ashram of Asaram, had gone into hiding after complaints of rape was filed by two sisters against him and Asaram on Oct 6.

The Surat Police on Oct 7 issued a lookout notice against Narayan Sai.

The complaint was lodged by two sisters in Gujarat's Surat city.

While the elder sister had alleged that she was raped by Asaram, the younger one had accused his son of committing the same crime in Surat.

They said that they are Asaram's followers and the incidents reportedly took place between 2002 and 2004.

Asaram was sent to the Jodhpur Central Jail on Sept 2 after the court remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody first for assualting a minor.

Earlier, Asaram passed potency test, which established that he is medically fit and sexually potent.

The 15-year-old girl, who was staying at Asaram's hostel in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kamla market police station in Delhi alleging she was sexually assaulted by the godman.
