Cyclone Phailin to hit Odhisha, AP

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 : Cyclonic storm "Phailin" which hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Wednesday, on Thursday intensified and headed towards coastal Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, said reports.

The Odisha government on Thursday raised its distant storm warning signal number to two from the earlier one at Paradip and Gopalpur ports.

At present, the storm is at 900 km south-east of Kalingapatnam and 950 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam and is slowly moving northwestwards.

"It will intensify in the next 12 hours and hit north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast at 175-185 kms per hour by Oct 12 night," said the Met department.

Heavy rainfall is expected across Odisha in the next 24 hours.
