Narayan Sai not absconding: Lawyers
Lawyers of jailed self-styled godman Asaram Bau's son Narayan Sai on Thursday said he is not absconding.
"The lawyers of self-styled godman Asaram's son Narayn Sai have released an advertisement in local newspapers in Gujarat claiming that their client is not absconding," reported CNN-IBN.
"In the ad they have claimed that Narayan Sai is innocent and that the case lodged against him is false. The ad published in Gujarati claims that Narayan Sai will seek legal recourse," said the news channel.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday summoned the Director General of Police (DGP) to get himself updated on the investigation into a sexual assault case against Asaram and Narayan Sai.
The Surat Police have issued summons to Narayan Sai, who, along with his father, has been accused in a case of sexual assault, reports said on Wednesday.
Narayan, who was last seen at Jaipur Ashram of Asaram, had gone into hiding after complaints of rape was filed by two sisters against him and Asaram on Sunday.
The Surat Police on Monday issued a lookout notice against Narayan Sai.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat Police on Wednesday went to Jodhpur city of Rajasthan to take custody of Asaram Bapu in connection with a fresh case of sexual assault.
A Gandhinagar court had given a transfer warrant to the Gujarat Police to get his custody.
Earlier in the day, the Jodhpur Police said a former employee of Asaram has approached them and said he has crucial information about the godman's activities.
The former attendant at Asaram's ashram in Ahmedabad worked for him for 10 years from 1991.
Asaram on Tuesday moved Supreme Court to restrain the media from carrying out his own trials.
The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam, who asked him to file a proper petition.
The hearing for the case is on Oct 21.
According to his counsel, there were 10,000 boys and girls studying in the ashrams, and the media speculations were adversely affecting them.
Earlier, adding more woos to Asaram, a fresh case of sexual assault was registered against him and his son Narayan Sai.
The complaint was lodged by two sisters in Gujarat's Surat city.
While the elder sister had alleged that she was raped by Asaram, the younger one had accused his son of committing the same crime in Surat.
They said that they are Asaram's followers and the incidents reportedly took place between 2002 and 2004.
Asaram was sent to jail on Sept 2 after the court remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody first for assualting a minor.
Earlier, Asaram passed potency test, which established that he is medically fit and sexually potent.
The 15-year-old girl, who was staying at Asaram's hostel in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kamla market police station in Delhi alleging she was sexually assaulted by the godman.
